A Winnable War

Samuel "Sam" Wyatt

I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy. Luke 10:19
This is a statement Jesus made to the seventy after He sent them to the cities He planned to visit. Jesus
was informing them that He had given them everything they needed to be successful. He informed
before their departure they need not take anything, all would be provided. Jesus did this because He
knew they could not achieve His mission on their own. And on their return they were joyful of their
accomplishments. If in your Christian march it seems that you are losing most of the battles against
temptation, then something is desperately wrong. If our Adversary, Satan, that Serpent of old, is getting
the upper hand consistently causing you to fall, it may be time for you to change your approach or
tactics in this warfare. You must always remember, this is no ordinary war and it is not fought with
ordinary weapons. General Satan is very skillful in the art of war. Therefore we need to allow the
General Jesus has promised and God has given us to take command. Why? Because “greater is He that
is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The only reason The Holy Spirit can’t win the battle
is because you won’t let Him take command, you won’t allow Him to take the lead. While we were in
the world alienated from God we had no sufficient power to wage war, not to think of winning, we
could not even lead our self. But now, after becoming believers, putting on Christ in baptism, with the
guidance of the Holy Spirit directing our paths, Jesus strengthening us, and God our Father fighting along
beside us, this Christian march not only becomes a battle we can win but “A Winnable War” as well.
Jesus said after He had faced all the world could throw at Him, “I have overcome the world.” After His
resurrection He told His disciples, which applies to all His disciples today, “I will be with you always, even until the end of the world” (Matt. 28:20 CEV). That is why this is “A Winnable War”; there is no losing with the power we’re using.
